Expedition Mankind

Expedition Mankind begins by looking at how life begins, with an installation that resembles a uterus. After their "birth", visitors can find out about their genetically-determined characteristics and see how strong the influence of genes is. What makes a person unique? Why am I the way I am? A personality is a complex mix of genes and character. We perceive our environment, and this influences and changes us.
In an area dedicated to the exploration of the senses, visitors explore their perception of the world, including the relationship between sounds and emotions. Our sense organs, however, are only suppliers of information. The brain is the place where data is interpreted and becomes significant.
Expedition Mankind leads the visitor into the world of the mind: This is where our past is created, where our future plans are forged, and where we learn ways of communicating with each other. Gestures, facial expressions, language, images, music - visitors explore the diversity of human connections to the world. They hear different languages and explore body language. The expedition ends in the themed area called the Time of Mankind. Hours, days, years - all the time periods of significance to us as humans are discussed: What happens during one minute? How much time does a person spend during an average life eating, watching television or working?
