Time of the Earth

The earth was formed four billion years ago. Two billion years later the atmosphere came into being - a prerequisite for the development of life. Protozoans became multicellular organisms and later on vertebrates. The first fish populated the earth 420 million years ago. Between 235 and 95 million years ago, the earth was the habitat of dinosaurs. Billion and millions of years - time dimensions that are simply inconceivable for us and yet they underlie the processes that affect our lives. At what time did man actually step onto the earth's stage? If the earth were now one day old, then mankind would so far only have been on it for a few seconds. How have we changed the development of the earth?

Cretaceous Period Room

The Cretaceous Period Room allows you to experience one of the most dramatic moments in the earth's history. Around 65 million years ago, the impact of a meteorite in the Gulf of Mexico led to a disaster of global proportions. The 10-km-wide rock struck the earth at a speed of 20 kilometres per second. The force of the impact caused the rock to melt, a huge shock wave raced across the continent and a mushroom cloud rose into the stratosphere. The earth was darkened for a long time, and according to estimates almost 65 percent of all animal species became extinct. Even the dinosaurs did not survive this disaster. The installation stands for the five known large catastrophes that are known as floral and faunal breaks. Such life-destroying moments always marked the beginning of new lines of development.
