Expedition Earth

Expedition Erde Bergerkstreppe

A planet is created - the starting point of Expedition Earth. The earth was not created in a flash, however; instead it involved a slow process of change. And even today, a variety of dynamic processes are interacting with each other to shape our world. Why is the earth's magnetic field changing? Can we predict earthquakes or volcanic activity? How are gorges and valleys created? The journey begins in the centre of the earth. Here lie the causes of the earth's magnetic field, a protective shield without which there would be no life on earth. A symbolic mine staircase leads visitors from the centre of the earth through the various shells and layers to the surface. Oceans, ice caps, rain forests and waterless deserts - you will explore the different faces of the earth, dive in a submarine to the bottom of the ocean and play with the laws of water dynamics. The last layer of the earth, its outer covering, is called the atmosphere. This is the home of climate and weather. Storms race thousands of kilometres across the sky, thunderstorm clouds build up and lightning strikes. Expedition Earth ends in the themed area called Time of the Earth. Over the course of four billion years, the earth has been slowly but steadily changing. However, even short-term dramatic events of a global scale have influenced it considerably. Where is the process of change heading? What is the future of our planet? And what influence do we humans have?
