Expedition Cosmos begins by looking at the question of the beginning of everything: We know that the earth was created a long, long time ago and that evolution resulted in the emergence of life. But where did everything begin? Scientists nowadays believe that at the beginning of time a great event took place called the Big Bang. A virtual journey through time leads visitors to this unimaginable starting point. Afterwards Expedition Cosmos discusses the vastness of space, its dimensions and its smallest building blocks. How big is the universe? Why do stars twinkle? How far away are they?
One star shines very close to us: the sun. Without sunlight the earth would not only be a dark place, but also cold and inanimate. In this exhibition area you will explore the mysteries of light and shadow. Next, Expedition Cosmos leads you to the Playground of Forces. Every day we are subjected to various different forces. Even infants know how to handle and use them. You will find out by playing which physical laws lie behind a behind a seesaw, a merry-go-round and a marble run. From everyday to microscopic sizes: The microscopic world has fundamentally different properties. An atom has no colour, is not rough or smooth. How then are properties created if everything is composed of atoms? Expedition Cosmos ends in the area called Time of the Cosmos. Here you will learn that time has a direction.
