SchauBox

The SchauBox is the starting point for your visit to Universum^® Bremen. From its foyer you enter the special exhibition, followed by the EntdeckerPark, and then carry on across the bridge to the Science Center on the other side of the road. The ground floor is home to the Kubus, a new, spacious restaurant with dining space both inside and outside, and the Prädikat shop. The first floor of the building houses not only the special exhibition area covering 700 square metres, but also the DenkArena, a multi-functional viewing room, theatre and lecture hall that can hold up to 150 people.

In contrast to the silver, organic shape of the Science Center, the SchauBox radiates linearity and simplicity. The cube, with a square layout, has a corten, partly-massive, partly-holed steel facade. This special steel rusts on the outside, and in doing so it provides the building with a variable-colour and interesting envelope. Use of a special alloy means that the material is long-lasting regardless of the rust, however. With this building, architects Haslob, Kruse und Partner created an architectural first, at least in northern Germany.
