Turm der Lüfte

The Turm der Lüfte is the symbol of the EntdeckerPark. This twisted structure reaches a height of 27 metres, and from its summit you can see the over the EntdeckerPark, SchauBox and Science Center. Are you daring enough to look down through the glass floor of the projecting external staircase?
The Turm der Lüfte is not only an observation tower, it also has plenty to see inside. On its various levels you can throw and drop balls, measure the strength of the wind at weather stations, and see how annual rainfall is measured using a funnel. Climb to the top of the tower and you will see unusual views of the heavens and earth!

Drainpipe

Why not drop a few balls down the drainpipe? Which ball falls faster - the rubber or polystyrene ball? A measuring device measures the speeds at which the balls fall at various points along the 15-metre-long pipe. Try to guess the length of time the balls remain in the air.

Celestial Window

Right at top of the tower, in the walk-in steel box, is the Celestial Window. It opens up a whole new view of the sky. Through a framed outlook in the ceiling of the box you can observe cloud formations, the blue sky and the influence of the wind. Just sit down on one of the benches and allow yourself to be entranced by the spectacle above.

Resonance Tubes

Here various long steel pipes are lined up like the pipes of an organ. They capture the sounds of the environment and increase the frequencies of the tones whose wavelengths fit the dimensions of the pipe. If you place your ear next to the lower end of one these pipes, you can hear the tone inside. Maybe you already know about this effect from shells.
