Exponade
An open space, two rust-red steel cubes, numerous exhibits, and a wide view towards the “Turm der Lüfte”: the Exponade is a place for explorers to walk along, as well as being the hub of the park. From the Exponade you can access the water cascades, the root path that runs through the small grove to the “Turm der Lüfte”, and the crawl-through tunnel on the Stone Hill.
Right in front of you stands the Mondspringer, a body yo-yo, where visitors rather than the yo-yo itself swing up and down. These giant leaps can be observed in the Camera Obscura. Did you know that a camera essentially works in the same way as this large, dark box?
Mondspringer (Moon Jumper)
A small jump to begin with, followed by increasingly larger jumps, until finally you find yourself jumping four meters into the air and reaching the transverse spar. How are such jumps possible? The answer: By jumping evenly you set yourself and a counter-weight in motion, and from time to time the inertia of the mass pulls you higher up into the air. A similar process takes place when you jump on the moon.
Camera Obscura
The Camera Obscura is located in one of the rust-coloured steel boxes on the Exponade. You enter the totally dark room through a light trap. After your eyes have adjusted to the darkness, the forecourt and MondSpringer on the projection area become visible. This camera has no lens, only a small hole. But why is the image upside down?
Aqua mystica
In the second steel box an almost silent stream of water falls from the ceiling into a pool of water. It is magically illuminated and appears far too regular for a water stream. Try placing your hand beneath it. This perfectly streamlined current is generated by a very sophisticated mechanism invented by Austrian artist Gerhard Zsambok.
