Idea & Concept
The idea for Universum® Bremen first emerged in 1996, when it was put forward by a group of professors at the University of Bremen. A plan was drawn up for a scientific centre in the city with a truly experience-based nature. The development of the ambitious large-scale project was overseen by Stiftung Universum GmbH in close collaboration with the University of Bremen and the two companies, Petri & Tiemann GmbH and Zechbau.
Thanks to a successful partnership between science and industry, a public-private partnership, the Science Center was built in a relatively short period of time of just one and a half years and opened on 9 September 2000.
In 2007, Universum® Bremen grew in size, and the Science Center now includes a new building, the SchauBox, and an outdoor area, the EntdeckerPark.
As a result, Universum® Bremen offers countless opportunities and possibilities: in the Science Center visitors can visit permanent exhibitions on mankind, earth and the cosmos, but will find them different each time they visit, or learn about a completely new topic by visiting one of the exciting, temporary special exhibitions held inside the SchauBox. Intrepid explorers can explore to their heart's content at Universum® Bremen, either indoors when the weather is bad, or outdoors in the EntdeckerPark when the weather is more favourable. Energetic visitors can climb the 27-metre-high Turm der Lüfte, increasing their knowledge inside and enjoying the views outside, while those who fancy a bit of mental gymnastics can take part in the wide-ranging programme of events at the DenkArena and Forum. Keep your curiosity alive!
